The Rotary Club of West Ottawa partners with other Ottawa Area Rotary Clubs as well as non-profit organizations in Ottawa to sell and deliver over 5000 chrysanthemums for Thanksgiving. This is one of our most successful fundraisers and it requires a commitment of time and energy by most of the club members in selling, processing the orders, mapping delivery routes, and/or actually delivering the mums in time for Thanksgiving.

Real estate agents, car dealerships, and brokerage firms take advantage of this program to thank their clientele for their business throughout the year. Individuals can also order mums to be delivered to family and friends.  Happy faces greet Rotarians and their partner organizations when deliveries are made!

Some of the charities supported with the Mums campaign of 2021 include:

  • Hygienic Toilet and Sanitation project for a school in Western Kenya
  • Storybook Ottawa which promotes literacy by giving a book to every child in selected schools.
  • Uganda: Economically Empowering People with Disabilities through skills training.
  • The Ottawa Community Housing Foundation which offers help to tenants with education, employment and community engagement.
  • Colombia: Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) for the inclusion of students with spina bifida.
  • Minwaashin Lodge, a Canadian support centre providing a range of services for Indigenous women and children who have suffered violence.
  • During the COVID lock-downs, and in partnership with the RC Downtown Kingston, Jamaica,  helped donate 30 tablets to three needy high schools to allow for on-line learning.
  • And others.

Our 2021 Mums project netted close to $50,000 to support the work of our partners and our own local and international community service projects.
