Ron Beaupre was raised in the village of Iroquois, first in the “Old Town”, with his backyard on the St. Lawrence River his front yard, Hwy 2, and then in the “New Town”, where he grew up. On graduation from Seaway District High school, Ron worked at a number of local industries until leaving for Toronto to earn a degree in Industrial Instrumentation Technology at George Brown College. From there he was hired by Ontario Hydro Nuclear Division and spent the next nine months at the Nuclear Training Center in Deep River. Ron worked in nuclear power plants for 31 years.

Ron’s lifelong hobby began sixty years ago, at age 11, when he became interested in Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Maritime History. He began researching and writing articles for publication in 1987. In 1996, he received the “Great Lakes Historian of the Year” award from the Marine Historical Society of Detroit. He has written many articles and has made many presentations about Great Lakes and St. Lawrence ships. He has been on the executive of the Toronto Marine Historical Society for many years.
